sim_gradient(n_col = 4, cov_range = c(0.5, 0.1))

Would produce columns with a range of covariances. E.g. column A and B would have cov = 0.5, B and C would have cov = 0.3, C and D would have cov = 0.1. Could be useful for testing relative order of correlatedness of variables.
