Dynamic analysis possible?

I am a PhD student currently working on a PreCICE adapter to transmit reaction forces from a separate 2D shell element FEA model, to OpenPILE for calculating deflections at the mudline.

As far as I understand, the current version essentially solves a static problem when solving for pile displacements based on Pz, and Py, and misses hysteresis. I am satisfied with this static solving for now, but wondering what steps would be needed to upgrade to a dynamic analysis and if you put any thought to this.

Hi Jacob,

I'm not a developer on this repo but am a fellow pile enthusiast and python coder. Could you please clarify what you mean by a dynamic analysis? Some p-y curves allow for simulation of cyclic loading, however I gather that this is still just static loading, albeit with modified curves for reduced soil strength/stiffness.

Commercial software I've looked at, that uses p-y curves, doesn't typically allow for direct simulation of time-dependent loading. If this is something you're after, then you may be better off generating p-y curves in OpenPile, and passing them as non-linear springs to OpenSeespy (Open System for Earthquake Engineering Simulation). Apparently OpenSeesPy has been used with PreCICE for other libraries already, such as OpenFOAM (see FOAMySees).
