It appears that while Foam supports various features for knowledge management, some users might want enhanced Markdown capabilities for formatting their notes. Currently, the README showcases basic Markdown usage, but users may benefit from additional formatting options such as tables, footnotes, and custom styles that are not natively supported by Markdown.

Suggested Enhancement

• Table Support: Allow users to create and view tables in their notes for better data presentation.
• Footnotes: Implement footnote functionality for referencing detailed explanations or sources without disrupting the flow of the main content.

Thanks for the comment, I understand what you mean, and from Foam's POV we leverage other extensions that are purely focused on Markdown to provide a better editing experience, for example https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=yzhang.markdown-all-in-one.

The goal of Foam has always been to focus on the networking aspect of note taking, leaving to VS Code itself and other extension dealing with the editing experience. This has 2 benefits:

• leverages the existing ecosystem, and other people working on their solution, instead of trying to create a centralized bundled solution
• makes Foam unopinionated about styling, formatting, and so on.. allowing you to pair it with whichever extension you prefer

All the features you describe above are covered by some extension, have you considered looking into that?
