Description
I've been on "coding hiatus" for a few months ... 🧑💻 ⏳
as I've been focusing on being a parent/husband (chef) & building IRL @home 👷♂️ 🚧 🏡
Most recently managing/building walls, concrete slabs and a slide 🛝 dwyl/workshop#137
Not that anyone can tell by superficially looking at my
GitHubprofile ...
But I've just been merging a few @dependabot PRs and doing the bare minimum maintenance/security, no new features.
Parenting and building IRL both have visible progress, but not income-generating. 💸 📉
Need to get back to work.
Recently I've been learning Swift / SwiftUI to build a Native iOS App: /dwyl/learn-ios-development [WiP]
Swift is a great language that has clearly had a lot of careful thought + design put into it but it's not Elixir.
Spent 2 weeks (1 hour per night) learning Swift and feel confident in the language. Mostly because it borrows many of the best ideas from other languages I’ve used. But I’m still nowhere near competent. I wouldn’t add it to my CV much less look for a job using it! That’s the thing with technologies; it takes a meaningful amount of time to get good enough to be paid to deploy it. And I simply haven’t had the time. 🫠
I want to continue my SwiftUI + Native iOS learning/building journey, because I know it’s the right stack for building high performing iOS Apps and the only one for WatchOS, but I know it’s going to take 6-12 months to pay-off! ⏳😬
I’m not one to shy away from investing in learning and personal development,
But right now I have to be highly focussed with my extremely limited time. 🎯
So with that in-mind. I’m temporarily pausing my SwiftUI learning. ⏸️
And instead re-focussing back on building a Web App with Elixir & Phoenix. 💧
Specifically I’m going to re-work our MVP from scratch using what we’ve built as a starting point but a) using Phoenix 1.8 with DaisyUI and b) tidying the code so that it feels like it was written by a single person; not cobbled together by many.
Note: I’m not saying that having several contributors to a project is a “bad” thing, just that in terms of overall UI/UX it can be tighter.
Plan: Show Up 2 Minutes Per day
My plan is to follow the Show up rule as outlined by James Clear and do 2 minutes per day.
I only need to find 2 minutes per day.
Anyone can find that amount of time.
