Informal workshop on Building Tools for Heterogeneous Agents Modeling

This workshop is organized at the IMF by Chris Carroll, Michel Juillard, Doug Laxton, Nathan Palmer and Pablo Winant.

The first talk by Chris Carroll, will intend to introduce Heterogeneous Agents Modeling to a general audience.

The rest of the day, will consist in informal roundtables, aimed at discussing their practical implementation. Here is a tentative program:

  • 9:30-10:30 Heterogeneous Agents Macroeconomics: An Example and an Agenda, initial address by Chris Carroll

  • 10:45-12:30 Bottom-Up Heterogeneous-agent Modeling, roundtable moderated by Chris Carroll

Which tools are required to solve heterogeneous agents models ? What is the state of research ? What needs to be developed ?

  • 12:30-13:45 Lightning talks on Python, Julia, and Open source Tools, organized by Nathan Palmer

  • 14:00:15:45 Top-Down Approaches, roundtable moderated by Pablo Winant

Is it possible to develop a modeling language for heterogeneous agents ? Is it possible to extend Dynare or Dolo to deal with this kind of models ?

  • 16:00:17:15 Collaboration and Social Engineering, roundtable moderated by Nathan Palmer

How to concretely achieve the main goals that will have been outlined during the day ? How to promote collaboration and how to attract participants ?
