Honestly I don't know what I am doing with submodules, its got me so confused!
But it build and runs on my Miyoo mini plus.
Edit: I updated the PR, I am still not convinced I have issued the PR correctly, but I have wasted a lot of time trying.
For retroArch update
git fetch --tags
git checkout v1.21.0
Apply the 2 commits:

It compiles and runs.
